MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 11

WEEK 11

Everyone is bored or stressed with homeschooling, the virus and the quarantining. I know. It would be a good idea to give you a break from it so I am going to tell you some bad bad jokes.

n                   ---- Why don’t chefs find coronavirus jokes    funny? They’re in bad taste.

--  I need to practice social distancing from ... the fridge.

--   We have been quarantining for more than two months. This morning I saw my neighbour talking to her cat in her garden. It was obvious that she thought her cat understood her. I came into the house, told my dog...we laughed a lot.

--  My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant in this lockdown that when I have a piss it cleans the toilet.

-- Talking about e-learning, my child just said: “I hope I don’t have the same teacher next year.” I’m offended.

--  Yesterday, I went to a new restaurant called “My Kitchen.” You must collect all the ingredients and make your own meal. I have no clue how this place is still in business.

---- I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides. I think I just barked at a squirrel.

If you didn’t like them, well … they are not supposed to be good.

To work this week the link for audio tracks of CULTURE MAGAZINE of 3ºESO is https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1A5pF2V0KiSpKCqu4ZYqoFP6oG6keaGLk

Remember: “The best is yet to come” but keep fun at home.

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 10

WEEK 10

We are in Phase One, but be patient. It doesn’t mean the end of the crisis although the long-awaited “liberation day” is nearer but the lockdown extension will continue during 4 phases.

Now, small businesses can reopen, we are allowed to move round the province and the most important, we can meet relatives and friends.

If we don’t want the propagation of the epidemic, we must adapt the network of our social contacts. We have to be responsible of ourselves and avoid being with more than ten people at the same time, either outside or in someone’s home but social distancing measures must be respected between people who don’t live together.

We are better than we were last week but remember that timetables for walking, riding and running are the same. Avoid crowds and it is still recommended the use of face masks. Do you wear it when you go out? And gloves? How many times do you wash your hands a day?

At the end of June (when the year at high school finishes), if the epidemiological curve follows the same trend as until now, we would be in the so-called “new normal life”. I am looking forward to that time, and you?

VERY IMPORTANT: if you failed 2nd evaluation, you have other opportunity to pass. Remember, the exam is on FRIDAY, 22nd MAY. If it is your case, open the attached documents 01 and 02.

NOTE FOR 2º ESO:

A/ send pictures with the exercises from the book page 86 & 87 CORRECTED IN RED at Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.

As always, in “asunto”, write class number, name, surname, and group.

DEADLINE for pics of all exercises corrected is on Tuesday, 19th May.

B/ PROJECT: A POSTER OF WORLD RECORDS.

Using the information you found on 20th May, prepare a poster similar to the one on the book page 89.

PROCEDURE:

-      Write your name, surname, class number and group at top right.

-      Include pictures of each record.

-      Write about 4 records but no more than 150/200 words in only one page. I know you are going to copy from the Internet, but choose sentences that you understand and need. Sometimes you should look for synonyms or easier structures.

-      Be careful with the kind of vocabulary you use. New words must be written in red colour and you have to include them in a second page of your project in a list of vocabulary with the translation but you can’t use more than 10 new words.

-      The project must be sent as an attached document written with Office Word 2007 or similar at Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.  You cannot send an image or PDF because in this case, I have to correct on the text itself.

-      In “asunto” as ALWAYS, write name, surname, class number and group, please.

The deadline is on Tuesday, 26th May but if you have it before, send it as soon as possible.

Have a nice week,

Marisa (from a terrace)

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 9

 WEEK 9

What a pity! Albacete is still in Phase Zero, but the current situation will improve, sure.

I know it is difficult to stay motivated and it is hard to study “enthusiastically” but some of you must do it above all if you failed English last year (I’m talking about “PENDIENTES”).

It is the first time you are studying at home. Well, it is a bit crazy, exams for students who failed are not cancelled but instead they are online. Remember, the exam is on FRIDAY, 15th MAY. If it is you case, open the attached documents 01 and 02.

2º ESO STUDENTS: this week you must send me you exercises from the book, pages 86 & 87 (see the schedule)

PROCEDURE:

1/ Do the exercises as always. It is: copy all in black pen and answer in blue. Write the page number and Vocabulary or Grammar before exercise 1.

2/ Take pictures with a mobile phone (be sure they are clear).

3/ Send the photos to Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.  If you have a Gmail account use Google Drive for the attached documents.

THE DEADLINE for sending these pics is on Sunday 17th May.  The delay will be taken into account. But if you have it before, send them as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Your teacher in tracksuit (my current outfit)

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 8

WEEK 8

You know the lockdown situation is changing because Spain is returning to a “normality” while keeping coronavirus under control. The government has prepared a four-stage plan to de-escalate from Covid-19. It is to reach a “new normality” while keeping our health.

Our country is in “phase zero” called “preparation”. It means a small relief for adult people by allowing us going outside from 2nd May and children under 14 could be in the street since 26th April. Have you already gone for a walk or jogging?

Now, we are in this phase during a fortnight (use the dictionary) more or less, if there is no many more new positive cases. Some shops and restaurants with food service to take away will open but with some special conditions but schools will be closed in all phases and nobody knows when the situation will change.

3º ESO PROJECT: FACT FILE ABOUT A CITY.

Using the information of the city you found on 30th April, prepare a fact file sheet for visitors to that place, similar to the one on the book page 89.

PROCEDURE:

-      Include pictures and a map.

-      Write your name, surname, class number and group at top right.

-      Include the information asked in exercise 1.

-      Write 5 paragraphs but no more than 150/200 words in only one page. I know you copy from the Internet, but choose sentences that you understand and need. Sometimes you should look for synonyms or easier structures.

-      Be careful with the kind of vocabulary you use. New words must be written in red colour and you have to include them in a second page of your project in a list of vocabulary with the translation but you can’t use more than 10 new words.

Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.  You cannot send an image or PDF because in this case, I have to correct on the text itself.

-      In “asunto”as ALWAYS, write name, surname, class number and group, please.

-      The deadline is on Thursday, 7th May.

Take care.

All the best,

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 7

WEEK 7 (shorter than usual)                             GOOD THINGS ARE COMING

Good news if you are under 14. From Sunday 26th April you can go for a walk along 1 Km around home. You are very lucky! If you are older, do not be impatient because experts say we will scale back confinement soon although at different speeds. But remember, life will not be similar to the one we had before the Civid-19 Pandemic and we know that the de-escalation will not take place in Albacete as soon as we’d like because the risk of transmission is high and our city is one of the hardest-hit places even though the health official, Fernando Simón, did not mention any specific regions.

If the evolution of the crisis does not take a turn for the worse, we will be able to go outside but we must continue learning at home for now.

Due to problems in storage and capacity, we are not going to use the account @edu.jccm.es any more. I also have problems with Papás and sometimes it does not let answer your communication.

PROJECT OF THE WEEK:

SEND A VIDEO, READING at Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.  (my new address)

2º ESO: listen to exercise 10/11 of page 77.  Ex. 11 is the audio correction. See Doc. 02 for written correction.

I have copied the link of all audio tracks from MARISA’S INGLÉS 2º ESO CURSO 19-20 of this web site. It is https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1lbZeq3QNdHMmY4N3N1R3ZaOXc?usp=sharing

3ºESO: listen to exercise 9/10 of page 77. Ex. 10 is the audio correction. See Doc. 01 WEEK 3 for written correction.

I have copied the link of all audio tracks from MARISA’S INGLÉS 3º ESO INTRODUCTION of this web site. It is https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1lbZeq3QNdHcktPcUttTS1WWmc&usp=sharing

 PROCEDURE:

1/ Listen and write down pronunciation on your notebook (you wrote the text and corrected it in Practice some days ago if you have done homework)

2/ Repeat and read out several times until you think you pronounce well. Pay attention to intonation and pauses too, not only pronunciation is important (avoid robot style).

3/ Ask someone to record a video on horizontal with a mobile while you are reading. Record the reading without stops.

4/ Send the video before Thursday 30th April at Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.

Important: in “asunto” write class number, name, surname, and group.

5/Wait for my answer to know I have it.

Don’t be shy. No one, apart from me, is going to see you reading. It is much easier than oral exams in front of the whole class. Use your best “guiri” accent.

NOTE FOR 3º ESO: send pictures with the exercises CORRECTED at Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.

In the email, include the page corrected. Thanks.

As always, in “asunto”, write class number, name, surname, and group.

DEADLINE for pics of p. 86 all exercises corrected is Monday 27 April.

DEADLINE for pics of p. 87 all exercises corrected is Wednesday 29 April.

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 6

WEEK 6

We continue being stuck home but positive things come out of the worst moments. The Corona crisis is going to change some of the ways we think as individuals and in society.

Here you have “food for thought” (use the dictionary) on making this a positive week for you:

n     - Are you saving money? I know this will have disastrous effects on employment and I am sorry about that if it is the case at home. You might even realise (watch out! it is a false friend. In American English it is written with “z” instead of “s”) that you can live well with less.

n  -   - This is good for the planet. So good! No planes, no cars, no industries … no pollution. It can show us that we are able to reduce climate change if we want to.

n         - You can enjoy time with your family. Maybe this is the time to retake or start an activity together. Have you done it?

n  -     - Love your elders. We realise how much we miss our grandparents, want to visit granny and don’t want to lose them.

n - - -  Cooking. Is it you hobby? If not, it is a good moment to start. Your family will be very happy if you surprise them with an unexpected dinner. It can break the routine.

n  -    -   Decluttering (a new word). Pack old clothes that you want to give away (sent it to charity organizations), order your bedroom (again your parents will be glad with you) or redecorate it (sometimes with the change of place of some elements is enough).

n - -   -  Be creative. Start writing if you like it or draw and paintif you are good at. Join a virtual class of yoga, simply exercise every day or dance with your favourite music (I told you I do it every evening).

n  -   --  Are you better using computers? With e-learning all of us have known new things, other ways of communication and work, haven’t we?

n    - Be a helper. Be aware of who in your circle (family, building, street …) is vulnerable during this time and check on them personally, by mobile or email. "To help" is a beautiful verb.

n - -    -  Rethinking your life and about our world. Maybe you will have time TO THINK.  Did you do it before? Perhaps you want to get closer to your relatives and spend more time with your friends. Work from now to have a better planet.

Keep your eyes open for positive impacts of this crisis.

NOTE FOR 3º ESO: send me the pictures with the exercises as soon as possible. In the email, include the page and the exercises of the pics.

As always, in “asunto”, write class number, name, surname, and group.
Thanks.

DEADLINE for pics of p. 86 ex 1,2,3 is on Monday 20 April.

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 5

Here we are again, home-based working. After a month of e-learning, I want to know more about you nowadays, so you have to:

-         -  copy and answer the following questions in a doc. written with Office Word 2007 or similar. Do not use other formats because I cannot correct them.

-            - Send an email with the attached document to Esta dirección de correo electrónico está siendo protegida contra los robots de spam. Necesita tener JavaScript habilitado para poder verlo.

-         - In “asunto”, write class number, name, surname, and group. It is very important to include this information in that order to organise all your answers.

-          -  In the attached document, write again number, name, surname and group at top right of the page. It is necessary to identify your work.

-          Answer each question as full as possible, please.

-          The deadline is on Wednesday, 15th April, but if you answer them before, send it as soon as you can.

Then, after checking them, I am going to send it back with the corrections.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

How are things at home and with the rest of relatives?

How about Easter?  Did you rest or did you do homework on holidays?

Is e-learning easier or harder than classes at secondary school?   Why?

Are you keeping a timetable on weekdays?

How much time do you spend working with the English subject a week?

Do you have homework for all the subjects?

What do you miss about secondary school apart from your friends?

What did you do before Coronavirus that you want to repeat when you can?

Did you start any new activity on those days? (for 2º ESO students)

What do you think and feel about this quarantine? (for 3º ESO students)

How do you imagine summer? (for 2º ESO students)

What are your expectations about future? (for 3º ESO  students)

This pandemic has change our lives, everybody knows it, but try to follow your routines even in this bizarre moment because you should think that THE BEST IS YET TO COME (this sentence is my motto in life for being positive)

A huge e-hug,

Your e-teacher, Marisa.

MARISA'S STUDENTS: CLASSES AT HOME week 4

WEEK 4 (04-04/13-04)

Free Time. It is Easter

Almost everyone likes music. Though different people have different musical preferences, almost everyone likes one sort or another. Music is part of you. It can help to learn good pronunciation and a variety of new vocabulary because songs almost always contain authentic, natural language. Music with lyrics engages both sides of the brain so it becomes a powerful learning tool.

So here you have a pair of web pages.

Choose a song you like according to your level and fill in the gaps. Do not try to understand all the text at first. Focus your attention on the blanks you must complete. There, you have the translation and some vocabulary explanations.

This page has more things to learn English in a different way:

http://www.saberingles.com.ar/songs/exercises/

The second page is very intuitive and you can choose the right level too:  es.lyricstraining.com

And you have an app for IOS and Android. It is free but you must register  LyricsTraining

There are more resources you can use at Easter:

n        -  Interactive Students of Burlington Books (you have the group code at your parents’ Papás mail)

LearnEnglish wants to support students who can't go to school at the moment. You can find tips and advice for learning at home.

n -     Duolingo has a webpage and app  for IOS and Android too

The followings are audio podcasts to practice oral skills and learn about grammar, vocabulary and culture:

n    6 Minute English (BBC)

n    Inglespodcast

n    Diálogos en inglés

n    Inglés 360

n    The English We Speak (BBC)

If you have failed 2nd evaluation, you know you have a “PLAN DE TRABAJO” to work with. It was sent via Papás. Ask your parents.

Have a nice but different Easter!
